Massage in Gran Canaria: Las Palmas vs Maspalomas (2026 prices & travel)
Staying in the south and wondering if a massage in Las Palmas is worth the trip? An honest 2026 comparison: real prices, bus and taxi times, and when each side of the island makes sense.
Searching "massage Maspalomas" or "massage Playa del Inglés" usually means one thing: you're on holiday in the south of Gran Canaria and your back is asking for help. I'm Janka, a massage therapist with my own studio in Las Palmas for over ten years — so yes, I have a horse in this race. But I'll also tell you plainly when staying in the south is the sensible choice, because sometimes it is.
Quick answer: a 60-minute massage in an independent Las Palmas studio costs €40-70; the same treatment in a Maspalomas resort spa costs €80-140. The two zones are 55 km apart on the GC-1 motorway — 40-45 minutes by car, about 1h10 on the direct bus. If you're based in the south and just want one hour of relaxation, stay south. If you want better value, independent therapists, and a real city wrapped around your treatment, come north.

How do massage prices compare in 2026?
The gap is big and consistent: the south charges 30-50% more for the same thing. Not because southern therapists are better, but because the southern client is a captive resort tourist and the spa pays five-star hotel rents.
These are the real 2026 ranges, the same ones I publish in my tourist guide to massage in Las Palmas:
| Duration | Las Palmas studio | South coast (Maspalomas / P. del Inglés) | Hotel spa (south) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 min | €30 - 45 | €40 - 60 | €55 - 75 |
| 60 min | €45 - 70 | €65 - 95 | €85 - 130 |
| 90 min | €65 - 95 | €90 - 130 | €120 - 180 |
| Couples 60 min | €100 - 150 | €130 - 180 | €170 - 250 |
Now do the full-day maths. If you're based in Las Palmas and head south just for a hotel spa, add transport (€8-16 return on the bus, €130-170 in taxis) plus two hours on the road. The southern "treat" can end up costing double the same afternoon in the north.
And the reverse? If you're in Maspalomas and travel north only for a €50 massage, the €20-40 saving gets eaten by transport — unless you turn the trip into a full city day, which is exactly what I recommend below.

What's different beyond the price?
The south sells resort: spa circuit, heated pool, bathrobe, detox juice, and a therapist who probably works for the hotel. It's a polished, predictable product. If your ideal plan is "spa + sun lounger + buffet", the south does it beautifully.
Las Palmas sells city: independent neighbourhood studios where the therapist stakes their name and reputation on every session. The practical difference: at an independent studio you talk to the person who will treat you — on WhatsApp, before you arrive — and that person adjusts pressure, oils and timing to what you tell them. At a hotel spa you get whoever is on shift.
Two more things the brochures skip:
- Las Canteras beach. Three kilometres of urban beach with a natural reef. A morning swim followed by a massage, no car or bus involved, is a plan the south can't copy. My studio is a five-minute walk from the sand.
- English, genuinely spoken. Central Las Palmas studios work in English daily (I treat in English, Spanish, Slovak, Czech and Polish). The south speaks English too, but with less of a name behind the hands.
How do you get between Las Palmas and Maspalomas?
It's about 55 km on the GC-1, the east-coast motorway. Three options:
- Global bus, line 30 — runs from the Santa Catalina interchange (and San Telmo) in Las Palmas to the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, stopping at the airport, San Agustín and Playa del Inglés. Takes 1h05-1h15 and costs €4-8 depending on the stretch. Cheap and reliable; exact times and fares on the Global website.
- Rental car — 40-45 minutes in clear traffic. Watch weekday rush hour leaving Las Palmas: it can add 20 minutes.
- Taxi — €65-85 each way. Only makes sense for 3-4 people or when time matters more than money.
Coming by cruise ship? The port is in Las Palmas, not the south — everything you need for a shore day is within a 25-minute walk of the ship. There's a dedicated cruise-port shore-day guide with a full timeline.
When does Maspalomas win, and when does Las Palmas?
Plainly, in both directions.
Stay in the south if:
- You're based in Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés and just want one hour of relaxation without going anywhere.
- What you fancy is the full resort package: thermal circuit, sauna, pool, bathrobe. That's a different product from a massage, and the south does it better than anywhere on the island.
- Your hotel has a good spa and the lift-ride convenience wins for you.
Come north to Las Palmas if:
- You want the best massage for your money: €40-70 versus €80-140, with independent therapists who live off their reputation.
- You want to combine the massage with a city day: Las Canteras, the Vegueta old town, tapas in Triana, shopping on Mesa y López.
- You arrive by cruise — the port is here.
- You're staying in the south but want to see "the other Gran Canaria": the capital is the largest city in the Canaries and the contrast with the resort south is part of the trip (Gran Canaria Tourism Board).
And if you're after something unique to the island — a Canarian massage with banana oil and aloe vera, for example — you'll find that in the north too.

What should you book for your holiday plan?
Three typical scenarios:
Staying in the south, one day for yourself: make it a full northern day. Bus 30 in the morning, a swim at Las Canteras, a 60-minute relaxing massage at midday, lunch on the promenade, an afternoon in Vegueta, bus home. Total cost including transport: less than the massage alone at a southern hotel.
Based in Las Palmas, or on a cruise: no debate. Independent studio in the centre, same-day WhatsApp booking, €40-70. My relaxing massage guide covers the types and what to expect from a first session.
You want a spa circuit (sauna, jacuzzi, pool): that day, the south wins — or one of the big urban-hotel spas in Las Palmas. A massage studio isn't a thermal circuit and pretending otherwise would be lying to you. What a studio does promise: a full hour of hands from a therapist with ten years of practice, no rush and no next client waiting at the door.
My studio's full price list is published — no surprises, no "rates on request". And if you're in the south still weighing up the trip, message me your actual plan and I'll give you a straight answer.
